BluMortgage Alternatives: When a CRM Isn't What You Actually Need

BluMortgage is a strong Canadian mortgage CRM. But if your actual problem is revenue discovery or FINTRAC compliance rather than pipeline management, you may need a different category of tool entirely.

BluMortgage is a well-built Canadian mortgage CRM. Brokers using it collectively manage more than $12 billion in annual volume, the integrations with Velocity, Filogix Expert, and Finmo are solid, and the pipeline visualization is genuinely useful for teams managing active deals.

We get asked regularly by Canadian brokers whether they should switch from BluMortgage to BrokerPlus. The honest answer is: probably not, because they’re not the same kind of tool. The better question is what problem you’re actually trying to solve. If your problem is pipeline management and team workflow, BluMortgage is a strong choice and likely the right one for you. If your problem is revenue discovery or FINTRAC compliance, you need a different category of tool entirely.

This post is a fair look at when BluMortgage is the right answer and when it isn’t. We include genuine BluMortgage competitors (Brokeredge, My Broker Pro, Team Wiley) for comparison, and we explain where BrokerPlus fits - as a complement to a CRM, not a replacement.

What BluMortgage is genuinely good at

Let’s give the product its due.

Pipeline visualization. BluMortgage’s pipeline view shows every deal in flight with stages, dates, owners, and status. For a brokerage with 20 agents and 100+ active deals, this visibility is operationally important. A spreadsheet doesn’t scale to this.

Integration depth. BluMortgage integrates directly with Velocity, Filogix Expert, Finmo, Scarlett DOS, Floify, and BrokrBindr for automated data sync. If you’re using any of these origination platforms, BluMortgage reduces manual data entry meaningfully.

Drip campaigns. Pre-built sequences for anniversaries, renewals, and milestones let the CRM maintain baseline client touch without broker effort.

Team collaboration. Reporting dashboards roll up activity across agents, which is useful for principal brokers managing multi-agent operations.

Maturity tracking. BluMortgage tracks renewal dates and surfaces upcoming maturities, which handles the basic renewal reminder function.

Brand and adoption. BluMortgage has been in the Canadian market long enough to have real scale. The product is mature, the support is established, and the broker community is familiar with it.

If CRM is the job you’re hiring software to do, BluMortgage is a credible choice. Many brokers at scale use it productively.

Where BluMortgage’s model has limits

CRMs are designed around one core assumption: that you know who your active clients are and you’re managing deals you’ve already started. The CRM helps you not lose track of what’s in progress.

Three broker problems fall outside this model:

Revenue discovery on past clients. A CRM tracks clients you’re actively working with. It doesn’t systematically scan your past-client book for refinance, renewal, HELOC, reverse mortgage, or debt consolidation opportunities that you haven’t noticed. Some CRMs (BluMortgage included) have added basic renewal or refinance reporting, but these are incremental features rather than the core product purpose. For a broker whose primary gap is surfacing opportunities hiding in the book, a CRM is underpowered.

Lender-specific IRD math. CRMs generally don’t perform lender-specific IRD penalty calculations. If refinance analysis is part of the job you’re doing, you’ll need a separate tool for the math.

FINTRAC and AML compliance. Most mortgage CRMs don’t include integrated AML, PEP, and sanctions screening. BluMortgage doesn’t, as of current product. Post-Bill C-12, this is a material gap for any Canadian brokerage - compliance screening has moved from nice-to-have to operational baseline, and a CRM that doesn’t include it leaves you solving the problem somewhere else.

These aren’t criticisms of BluMortgage specifically. They’re the boundaries of the CRM category generally. The same applies to Brokeredge, My Broker Pro, Team Wiley, and other Canadian mortgage CRMs.

The CRM alternatives to BluMortgage

For brokers evaluating CRMs specifically - not CRM substitutes, but other CRMs - three worth considering:

Brokeredge

Brokeredge positions itself as the simple CRM for Canadian mortgage brokers. Integrates with Finmo, Velocity, Scarlett, Filogix, and Hurricane. Canadian-hosted with PIPEDA compliance. The pitch is that it’s easier to set up and use than more feature-heavy alternatives.

Good fit for: solo brokers or small teams who want CRM functionality without the learning curve of a more complex product. Brokers whose primary complaint about BluMortgage is that it’s more product than they need.

Trade-off: less feature depth than BluMortgage. If you need advanced reporting, complex team workflows, or deep integration customization, Brokeredge may feel lighter.

My Broker Pro

Positioned as an all-in-one for mortgage brokers, with Finmo as the primary origination integration. Pricing is competitive, particularly for brokers on Finmo who want a CRM that natively syncs.

Good fit for: Finmo users who want a CRM designed around the Finmo data model rather than one that integrates as an afterthought.

Trade-off: less established than BluMortgage in the Canadian market. Product is maturing.

Team Wiley

All-in-one Canadian broker software with Finmo as the primary integration, similar positioning to My Broker Pro. Newer entrant.

Good fit for: brokers evaluating fresh alternatives rather than established products.

Trade-off: earliest stage of the three alternatives, so less broker community and more product evolution to expect.

Zoho-based solutions (BluRoot)

BluRoot, the company that makes BluMortgage, also offers Zoho-based mortgage solutions for brokers who want to build on a more general-purpose CRM platform. More customizable; also more setup work.

Good fit for: brokerages willing to invest in implementation for long-term customization flexibility.

Trade-off: higher setup and learning curve. Not a plug-and-play CRM.

If a CRM is genuinely the job you’re hiring for, BluMortgage is probably still the default choice in Canada, with these alternatives worth evaluating based on your specific fit.

When a CRM isn’t what you need

Here’s where brokers often buy the wrong category of tool.

The broker has 400 past clients, a reasonably healthy pipeline of active deals, and a feeling that they’re leaving revenue on the table from their book. They evaluate CRMs (BluMortgage, Brokeredge, My Broker Pro), pick one, implement it, and… the revenue stays on the table. Because the problem wasn’t pipeline management - the pipeline was already functional. The problem was revenue discovery, which CRMs don’t solve.

This is the category confusion we see most often. Symptoms:

You know your active deals are handled. You’re not losing deals because of pipeline chaos. You’re losing opportunities you can’t see.

Your renewal retention is below 60 percent. The CRM tracks renewal dates but doesn’t systematically work them. You need a renewal workflow, not just a reminder.

You don’t know which of your past clients have refinance potential today. Rates moved, home values moved, but your CRM shows you a contact list rather than an opportunity list.

Compliance documentation is scattered. Different records in different places. A FINTRAC examination would be a scramble.

These are not CRM problems. They’re revenue intelligence and compliance problems. A new CRM won’t fix them.

Where BrokerPlus fits

BrokerPlus is designed to sit alongside a CRM, not replace it. The three things BrokerPlus does that CRMs generally don’t:

Revenue intelligence. Scans your client book continuously and surfaces every refinance, renewal, HELOC, reverse mortgage, and debt consolidation opportunity, ranked by dollar value, with lender-specific IRD math. This isn’t a CRM feature - it’s a different category of tool.

FINTRAC compliance. Every client gets screened against sanctions, PEP, and adverse media lists at import and continuously after. Records retain in audit-ready format. Post-Bill C-12 this is operational baseline.

Automated outreach with follow-up logic. Multi-email sequences from your own email address, with follow-ups that fire automatically if the client doesn’t respond.

Most brokers using BrokerPlus keep their existing CRM (BluMortgage, Velocity, whatever their network provides) and run BrokerPlus as a layer that handles the jobs the CRM doesn’t. The two tools don’t conflict. They solve different problems.

Who should evaluate what

If you’re happy with BluMortgage and it’s solving your actual problem: stay with it. Don’t switch for the sake of switching. Your CRM choice isn’t your biggest lever.

If you’re frustrated with BluMortgage’s complexity or cost and you just need a simpler CRM: look at Brokeredge or My Broker Pro.

If your actual problem is revenue discovery rather than pipeline management: don’t swap CRMs. Add a revenue intelligence tool (BrokerPlus) on top of whatever CRM you’re using.

If your actual problem is FINTRAC compliance: don’t swap CRMs either. Add a compliance tool, which could be BrokerPlus (integrated with revenue intelligence) or a standalone vendor like ComplyCube.

If you have multiple unrelated problems: you probably need multiple tools, not one replacement.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t BluMortgage just add revenue intelligence features?

It may, over time. Some CRMs are adding basic opportunity-surfacing features. But purpose-built revenue intelligence requires different capabilities than CRM features can easily accommodate - lender-specific IRD engines, continuous property valuation integration, automated outreach with follow-up sequences, integrated compliance screening. Adding these to a CRM is architecturally complex, and the result tends to be a CRM with added features rather than a purpose-built revenue intelligence platform. Different tools optimize for different jobs.

Is BluMortgage expensive relative to alternatives?

BluMortgage’s pricing isn’t publicly standardized - it varies by brokerage size and contract terms. In our conversations with brokers evaluating CRMs, BluMortgage is typically in the middle of the Canadian market - more than My Broker Pro or Brokeredge, less than enterprise options. Get a quote for your specific situation; the market has range.

Can I use BrokerPlus without a CRM?

Yes, for solo brokers with small active pipelines. For a broker with 10+ concurrent deals and team workflow, a CRM adds value that BrokerPlus alone doesn’t provide. The right stack usually includes both.

What about integration between BrokerPlus and BluMortgage?

BrokerPlus imports from Filogix, Velocity, Finmo, and CSV. If BluMortgage is your CRM and these are your origination platforms, BrokerPlus imports from the underlying origination tools. Direct BluMortgage-to-BrokerPlus data sync isn’t currently offered; both platforms work with the shared source data.

Which CRM has the best FINTRAC compliance built in?

None of the major Canadian mortgage CRMs have integrated FINTRAC compliance at the depth a brokerage needs post-Bill C-12. BluMortgage doesn’t; Brokeredge doesn’t; My Broker Pro doesn’t; Team Wiley doesn’t. Finmo (which is primarily origination rather than CRM) has FINTRAC workflows integrated into the origination flow, which is the closest thing in the market. For dedicated compliance, you need a separate tool or a revenue intelligence platform like BrokerPlus that includes it.

Does BluMortgage integrate with Ownwell?

Not directly at time of writing. Brokers using both typically feed each tool from their source origination data separately. If tight integration becomes a priority for you, check with both vendors on current capabilities.

What should I actually do if I’m currently frustrated with my CRM?

Before switching CRMs, diagnose what specifically is frustrating. If it’s pipeline management, workflow, or team coordination - consider an alternative CRM. If it’s revenue discovery, compliance, or opportunity surfacing - no new CRM will solve it. Add a complementary tool (BrokerPlus or dedicated compliance vendor) rather than replacing your CRM. The right tool for the wrong problem is still the wrong tool.
